Disabled people report positive experience of primary care in Brighton and Hove

Healthwatch surveyed nearly 1500 people across Brighton and Hove in 2017 asking them about their experiences of primary care.

Among these we received 469 responses from people who reported they had a disability, 34% of respondents.

Disabled respondents generally reported a positive experience.

They gave an average overall rating of their GP practice of 8.0 out of 10 compared to an overall average of 7.9. And 80% reported satisfaction with their practice compared to 82% overall.

These figures suggest GP practices are generally performing well in meeting the needs of disabled people in the city.

Insight from the GP review

Healthwatch visited 29 surgeries in the city as part of the GP review. At each surgery the Healthwatch team observed the patient-friendliness of the environment paying attention to the comfort of the waiting area, appointment call systems, communication with patients, display of information, general hygiene and toilet facilities.
