The assessment took place from 3rd to 15th April 2025.

The latest rating for this service is "Good".

Patcham Nursing Home is a service providing support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia. They support people with a variety of physical and mental health needs. There were 28 people living at the home at the time of our assessment. At CQC's last inspection of the service, it was rated "requires improvement" in being safe and effective. There had been improvements made at this assessment and the rating has now changed to good.

Although CQC had received some concerns about catheter care at the home, they found no evidence of poor practice. Improvements had been made to staffing levels and staff were now receiving appropriate support. People were safe and cared for by appropriately trained staff who knew them well.

The nurses had good oversight of medical treatments and were appropriately recruited. The registered manager and deputy manager had a robust schedule of quality assurance checks in place to ensure any issues were quickly identified and addressed.

There was an open and transparent culture at the home, with an ethos for learning and driving improvements.

People received individualised care which was centred around their needs and wishes. This was regularly reviewed and external professionals involved as and when appropriate.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control in their lives, and staff demonstrated a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).

The management had forged good relationships with the local community and feedback we received from professionals was positive.

People and their relatives consistently spoke positively about the staff and management of the home. CQC saw warm and gentle interactions between people and staff, and staff knew people well. People felt safe living at Patcham Nursing Home and told CQC that they were supported by staff who were well-trained and treated them with dignity and respect. People and their relatives were involved in shaping their care plans and wherever possible and appropriate, were involved in decision-making about their support.

One person told CQC, “[Staff] are so lovely to me, they absolutely treat me with respect, they are always popping in to say hello.” A relative said, “The staff are caring, compassionate, and take their time when providing personal care. They regularly engage her in conversation and treat her with great kindness.”

People and their relatives told us that the home was well managed and there was an open and transparent environment where management were always available. CQC saw people being encouraged to have choice and remain as independent as possible.
