Meet our volunteer - Cindy

"The project brings me into contact with a wide range of people who depend on their carers to bring support and stability to their lives. I enjoy this engagement with the community and it helps me to better appreciate the scale of the problem."

Cindy is one of our most experienced Lay Assessors - volunteers that visit people receiving home care to ask about their experience and the quality of service they received. We asked her to share why she likes it.

Cindy's View

"My previous volunteering role with Macmillan brought me into contact with people who often had multiple health issues often relied on care. It was apparent that the services they received could have been more effective if a more integrated approach was adopted. This led to my interest in the Lay Assessor Scheme. I felt it was critical that more attention be paid to a service that was increasingly in demand.

The project brings me into contact with a wide range of people who depend on their carers to bring support and stability to their lives.  I enjoy this engagement with the community and it helps me to better appreciate the scale of the problem.

I find the experience of meeting people very humbling as in the main they remain positive and appreciative in spite of all their problems. The thought that I can offer a voice for someone is very rewarding."
