DOCTOR TALKS presented by Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals.
19% of people across Europe suffer with chronic pain; one third of these have severe pain.
Dr Tom Smith, Consultant in Pain medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals is the speaker at Doctor Talks on Wednesday 18 April.
Dr Smith will explain how a holistic approach seeks to reduce the pain itself, whilst recognising psychological and social factors that inevitably intertwine with the pain to impair quality of life.
Introducing the talk Dr Smith says ‘Pain medicines can be frustratingly ineffective in chronic pain. Spinal Cord Stimulation uses subtle modulating electrical impulses. For some people this therapy can be life-changing. My work includes clinical research at the cutting-edge of this field and the talk will explain this exciting therapy and its current indications’.
Doctor Talks is on Wednesday 18 April, 6.30 pm at Audrey Emerton Building, Eastern Road, Brighton BN2 – opposite the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
All welcome – the talk will be of particular interest to those living with, treating or caring for someone with chronic pain.
