    We contributed to a nationwide review on maternity services. We spoke to local women and their partners about emotional support during the perinatal experience (pregnancy, birth and post-birth up to one year afterwards) and gave findings to Healthwatch England who called for national policy change.

    Healthwatch Brighton and Hove conducted visits to various sites run by the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust (UHSx). Ten of our trained volunteers conducted these visits in October 2023.

    Our visits to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, the Eye Hospital and various wards across the estate were part of PLACE or ‘Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment’. This report provides a summary of our observations from the visits. PLACE is delivered as a national programme, and all data is collected and formally analysed by NHS Digital. They will publish detailed reports after the programme has ended.

    Healthwatch Brighton and Hove conducted visits to Mill View Hospital and Rutland Gardens which are both run by the Sussex Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (SPFT). Six of our trained volunteers conducted these visits.

    In May 2023, Healthwatch were invited by the University Sussex Hospitals Trust (UHSx) to attend an Emergency Department Redevelopment Engagement workshop, to read the full report click here. In September 2023, Healthwatch attended the second workshop in the series, and we were able to find out the progress UHSx has been making to date.

    Between April 1st 2023 and March 31st 2024, we received 365 enquiries to our helpline. These were a combination of phone call messages (42), feedback through our website (142) and emails (126). All enquiries are handled by two experienced, trained and DBS checked Healthwatch volunteers.

    In April 2024, the three local Healthwatch in Sussex sought people's experiences of Memory Assessment Services in Sussex. We asked six questions and produced a two-page summary report.

    This report outlines findings surrounding the use and attitudes of digital technology among ethnic minority elders in Brighton and Hove. This report informs a second work package which intends to support future engagement in research from this underserved population.

    22 people shared their views and experiences surrounding digital technology. The conversations explored people's digital skills, how digital technology is used, issues surrounding trust, accessing health services, and issues related to age and ethnicity.
